Description Presets
Reusable description templates with smart variables. Assign Bug Report, User Story, Definition of Done, or custom description formats to each task in your batch.
Description Presets are reusable description templates you can apply to any task. Instead of writing the same bug report format or user story template every time, pick a preset and it fills in the description automatically.
Open the preset gallery
Click the 'Presets' button in the description editor toolbar. The gallery opens with all available presets organized by scope: Personal, Project, and Global.
Browse by category
Presets are organized by type — Definition of Done, Test Case, Bug Report, Meeting Notes, Job Story, Task Onboarding, and more. Use the search bar to find specific presets quickly.
Preview before applying
Click any preset to see its full content in the preview panel. Check the structure, placeholders, and variables before inserting.
Insert into task
Click 'Insert' to apply the preset to your task's description. Variables are highlighted as colored pills ready to be filled in.
Pro tip: You can switch between Preview and Edit modes in the preset gallery to see exactly what will be inserted.
Variables make presets dynamic — names, dates, roles, sprint numbers, anything that changes per use. You insert them as colored pills inside the template editor (the description field on a task in your template); the underlying syntax is hidden behind the UI.
Insert a variable pill in the template editor
Open a task in your template, expand the description, and click the variables button in the toolbar. A colored pill is inserted in the body — give it a name and a type (text, date, or user). Each type has its own color so you can tell them apart at a glance.
Use template variables when editing inside a template
When you open a preset from inside a template, the picker also lists every variable already defined on the template (sprint number, release date, team lead, etc.). Pick one and the preset will resolve from the template's value — no need to redefine it.
Reuse the same variable across tasks
Two pills with the same name resolve to the same value. Define qa_lead once on the template and every preset that references it fills in the same person.
Pro tip: Prefer template-level variables over preset-only ones whenever the value is shared across tasks — it cuts the number of fields users have to fill in when they apply the template.
Build your own presets for your team's specific description formats. Every team has their own way of writing bug reports, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
Click 'New' in the gallery
Open the preset gallery and click the '+ New' button. Choose between creating from scratch or duplicating an existing preset.
Write your template
Use the rich text editor to write your description format. Add headings, checklists, tables, and code blocks. Insert variables with the {x} button in the toolbar.
Set scope and metadata
Choose Personal (only you), Project (your team), or Global (all projects). Add a name, icon, and description so others can find it.
Pro tip: Start with a built-in preset and customize it. The Definition of Done preset with variables is a great starting point for your team's specific quality checklist.
