Round-Robin Assignment

Distribute tasks evenly across your team. Select people manually or pick a Jira role — tasks are assigned in rotation automatically.

Round-Robin distributes tasks evenly across selected team members. Instead of manually assigning each task, select your people and SuperTemplates rotates assignments automatically — Task 1 to Alice, Task 2 to Bob, Task 3 to Carol, and so on.

1

Select tasks to assign

In the editor, select the tasks you want to distribute. Use Ctrl+A for all tasks, or Shift+Click to select a range.

2

Open Round-Robin

Click the 'Round-Robin' button in the bulk action toolbar. The assignment modal opens with two tabs: Manual and Role.

3

Choose your method

Manual lets you pick individual people. Role lets you select an entire Jira project role (e.g., all Members). Both methods distribute tasks evenly.

4

Apply and review

Click 'Apply' to assign tasks. Check the task list to verify the distribution looks correct before pushing to Jira.

Pro tip: Round-Robin respects existing assignments. If a task already has a manual assignee, it's skipped during rotation.

Round-Robin is scope-aware — it understands your task hierarchy and assigns within the right boundaries automatically.

1

Epic scope

When you run Round-Robin on an Epic, it assigns all Tasks, Stories, and Bugs underneath it — plus all their Subtasks — until the next Epic. The Epic itself keeps its original assignee.

2

Task scope

When you run Round-Robin on a Task (or Story/Bug), it assigns the current task plus all its Subtasks. Other tasks at the same level are not affected.

3

Manual assignees are preserved

If any line already has a manually set assignee, Round-Robin skips that line entirely. This lets you lock specific tasks to specific people while distributing the rest evenly.

Pick exactly which team members should receive tasks. Search by name and select as many people as you need.

1

Switch to Manual tab

The Manual tab shows a searchable list of all Jira users in your project. Use the search bar to filter by name.

2

Select team members

Click on users to select them. Selected users are highlighted with a green checkmark. Click again to deselect.

3

Apply the rotation

Click 'Apply N users' to distribute tasks across your selection. Tasks are assigned in order: first selected user gets Task 1, second gets Task 2, etc.

Pro tip: The order you select people matters — it determines the assignment rotation order.

Assign tasks to an entire Jira project role at once. Perfect for distributing work across a team without selecting individuals.

1

Switch to Role tab

Click the 'Role' tab in the Round-Robin modal. You'll see all Jira project roles available in your project.

2

Select a role

Click a role to select it. The expanded view shows all members of that role. For example, the 'Member' role might show 6 team members.

3

Apply from role

Click 'Apply N from [Role]' to distribute tasks across all members of that role. The rotation follows the order shown in the member list.

Pro tip: Role members are cached for 1 hour. If you've just added someone to a Jira role, use the refresh button to update the list.
